Im a Soccer goalie and i only used normal Soccer Shorts, what are the point of goalie shorts and pants?

any specific brands of good shorts or pants would be appreciated

I just wear the padded thigh length goalie shorts. Currently wearing Adidas but it doesn’t matter which ones really, just what I feel like purchasing at the time. The reason? I played a lot in Australia, at times there is drought and the fields become rock hard. After a season of my legs being continually cut up after every game, I moved to the goalie pants. Funnily enough, didn’t buy the full length as a) I think they look ridiculous and b) I do like a bit of blood on occasion, and the short ones still let you get cut up around the knee area, from the top of the sock to where the bottom of the shorts. Sad hey.
